English Heritage - Weeting Castle

Attraction | Brandon | Angleterre | Royaume Uni

Lovely little place. Doesn't take long to walk around, but still steeped in history.

A fabulous place to take a stroll and imagine life as it was in the 14th century before Google was ever imagined.

Nice piece of history that is easily accessible. The information boards on site give you a good overview of the history of Weeting Castle and the grounds are well kept

I'm a very quiet village, we stumbled upon this place, unfortunately due to time and repairs are very clear , and in places looks like an eye sore

Scaffolding is down and the restoration work is beautifully done, great place to visit and lovely walks with more Medieval archaeology nearby (nb remains of stone cross 5km North).

A nice old building but undergoing lots of repairs at the moment so it is covered in scaffolding

This could probably be quite a nice place to see but unfortunately the whole thing is covered in scaffolding while conservation work is happening, and apparently has been for the last year. It might be good if you are really enthusiastic about seeing such a site otherwise I'd give it a miss unless the scaffolding is off.

It's in ruins, and it's not properly a castle, but a manor hall. But, it was awesome to see, anyway

I've given this 4 stars as you can't go in and walk around; however, it is marvellous to see English Heritage protecting it.

Looked impressive for what it was, shame essential work was being carried out but it needs to be done to keep these places for us to visit

Hidden away, off the beaten track - literally! Weeting is a gem as few manor houses of this period survive. Free to visit with reasonably level access. A wheelchair would be a challenge but not impossible. The main walls were being stabilised when we visited but the scaffolding should be away by now

Really interesting place. Had no cost, and parking was free. There was some construction to repair, but still very cool to be there.

Beautiful location! Nice and remote area to give from the bustle of city life. Nearby church adds to the view quiet nicely. Small free car park with a 1 minute walk to the castle. I came when there was scaffolding, but it was still lovely to see and be in the presence of history.

Not much to see, scaffolding covering what's left of main building. Not worth the effort to get there at moment.

Unfortunately scaffolding stopped us from seeing it all but fully understand why it is there.

Interesting ruin of a 12th Century manor house, with some walls still quite intact due to the substantial stones used in the original construction. Weeting 'Castle' is deceptively named because the building was never fortified, but nonetheless it's a worthy enough relic that warrants investigation. As a historic site it's more interesting than the over promoted, nearby Thetford Priory, simply because the house structure is still quite distinct...
